Freemasonry
has been around for a very long time, has over
two and one-half million members in the United States of
America
and has contributed immeasurably to the
establishment and growth of our nation.
Freemasonry
is not a religion even though the Masons have
worked closely with churches throughout the centuries.
During the
middle ages, free masons supplied architects and
builders for the great cathedrals. The Fraternity believes in
letting
each person believe in what they believe in.
Freemasonry has taught men how
to teach and to lead other men.
The fraternity teaches a man the true value of himself and
his fellow man.
Freemasonry
has been falsely accused of being a
political organization, it is not. We do not permit the
discussion of partisan
politics at our lodge meetings.
During the Civil War, freemasonry remained a House
Undivided and supplied cement
of brotherly love and
affection which aided the states to come back together.
Never has this organization supported
any political party,
but has always defended the right of every man to belong to
the party of his own choice.
Freemasonry
is a great charitable institution- giving away
roughly $1.4 million each day. This fraternity has taken the
traditional
ideal of a personal, private, Masonic charity of
orphanages, homes for the aged, hospitals, educational and
healing
foundations for our own members and dependents and
turned it into a major public institution of philanthropy,
aimed
primarily at crippled children, burn victims, literacy,
sight and medical research.
Charity,
truth and loving kindness have become the fraternity’s
watchwords. Peace and harmony should be the strength and
support of all societies, but more especially of ours.
There aren’t many places
in the world where you can get
practical training in public speaking, conducting a meeting,
budgeting, planning,
and leadership skills, intellectual
discipline, and practical experience in psychology.
The
Fraternity believes in family first and foremost, we believe
in the value of labor. We live by moral and social virtues
not
just behind closed doors but in our everyday lives. We serve as
exemplars for our fellow men. Freemasonry
guides us to the side
of the needy and to the defense of Truth. We are directed towards
the light never the darkness,
toward love not hate.
We believe in dignity and worth of an individual, in his right to
honesty, integrity
and forthrightness. We are strong supporters
of the fundamental principles of physical, intellectual, moral,
political,
and religious freedom for all our citizens.
