The officers of a Lodge or chapter are divided into the Elected and the Appointed, the former in America being the Master,
Wardens, Treasurer, and Secretary, while in England only the Master and Treasurer are elected.
In Masonry the tenure of every office is not only for the time for which the incumbent was elected or appointed, but extends
to the day on which his successor is installed. During the period which elapses from the election of that successor until
his installation, the old officer is technically said to “hold over.”

A lodge is somewhat like a ship, captained by a Master who, having taken on the
burdens & responsibilities of steering it through both rough and calm waters on a true and steady course, depends largely
upon the support and reliability of the ships crew. You, the officers, are that crew, neither one can do their job properly
or efficiently without the other. The Master, therefore, has the right to expect from his officers the loyalty, support
and cooperation necessary to enable him to steer the proper course. Each properly pursuing his obligations will ensure the
general good and benefit of the lodge and its members. For proper continuity in the performance of each officers duties,
each must attend all meetings called by the Master, unless otherwise excused.
